Titans, Beach Volleyball, Badminton, and Idols: Anime to Look Forward to for Summer 2018

Summer is finally here! Which means it’s time for the heat (uwu), the beach, long days and short nights which you all will hopefully fill with happy memories! Also and most importantly, new seasonal anime! I recently checked out what is coming out for this season on AniChart and saw a lot of anime with the potential to be good.

It’s time to take a look at what I am anticipating to watch and what I’ll be holding off on to binge once the season ends!

Shows I’ll Be Keeping Up With Weekly

Let’s start with anime I’ll be keeping up with on a week by week basis. I usually like watching slice of life anime weekly as it is more fun to watch that way instead of marathoning it at the end of the season. However, this summer might be an exception. There’s a lot of good anime coming out that I don’t think I can wait until the season ends to watch it!

Attack on Titan Season 3

It has only been a year since the last Attack on Titan season came out but to me, it feels like it’s been decades. I always thought this anime was overrated when the first season came out but after catching up to the manga, so many hyped events are going to be occurring in the next couple of seasons. Unfortunately, this season will cover, (what to me was) one of the more boring arcs. Well, it was boring to me since the manga felt like it was moving on a snail’s pace due to it only coming out once a month. It would probably be a better experience to watch it weekly, but we shall see.

If you do find it boring and drop it, I feel bad for you. The faithful, on the other hand, shall be rewarded because after this upcoming arc, the series will begin to pick up the pace.

You can watch the Attack on Titan PV here:

Grand Blue

A slice of life anime about college life? COUNT ME  IN. I’ve always wanted more slice of life about adults, especially since the genre is saturated with either high school or middle school girls. I mean, I don’t really have a problem with them, but ones about adult life are more relatable. After watching The Recovery of an MMO Junkie last fall, I’ve craved more. Even before that, I think the only ones about adults I’ve seen are Golden Time, Servant x Service, Shirobako, and New Game. So having another one about adults is refreshing.

I’ll be looking forward to having a laugh watching Grand Blue weekly!

You can watch the Grand Blue PV here:

Harukana Receive

This anime looks promising, especially since I’m a big fan of Haikyuu!  Harukana Receive will revolve around beach volleyball so we’ll probably not only get the intensity from the game itself, but tons of fan service as well. I just hope it wouldn’t be as rampant as Keijo.

You can watch the Harukana Receive PV here:

Ongaku Shoujo

IDOLS!!! You know I’m a sucker for idol anime, and after watching the PV the songs don’t sound bad either. Ongaku Shoujo revolves around an idol unit that doesn’t sell as well. The solution they come up with in order to reach the top? Find a new member.

I love watching idol anime where they start off from the very bottom and climb their way up. That’s why I’m so fond of them in the first place. We watch them go through so many obstacles as a team and find a way to shine together.

Well, this is a new one. Hanebado will be a sports anime revolving around badminton. For those of you that don’t know badminton, it’s a pretty intense sports that relies mostly on reflexes. It’s similar to tennis except badminton uses your wrists while in tennis, you use your forearms. It’s very fast-paced and is also good for those who wants a workout. I was deep into badminton when I was younger and I thought I could transition easily to tennis just from being proficient in badminton. Turns out they work completely different >_>

Anyways just judging from the PV, I feel like this has a lot of potential. I’m only worried over the fact that it’s made by the same studio that adapted Berserk so they might use awful CGI for in game scenes.

You can watch the Hanebado PV here:

So that will be what I am for sure going to be watching on a weekly basis!

Of course there are more notable anime coming out for this season! I will probably watch their first episodes and judge from there if I should watch it weekly or let the episodes stack so I can watch it in one go.

More Notable Anime

Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes

So this anime falls under the mystery genre and from the sypnosis, the two main characters solve odd cases brought by various clients. Sounds alot like Hyouka, and I don’t know if you all have noticed, but I have used Oreki a couple times on some of my blog posts because I love that show so much! (It’s actually due for a rewatch)

You can watch the Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes PV here:

Island will be produced by Feel, which means it’ll probably be another outstanding anime. For those that don’t know or would like to be reminded, Feel is more known for coming out with anime such as Hinamatsuri, Oregairu, and Tsuki ga Kirei. Judging from the PV, this looks like it will possibly become an emotional, feelsy anime so if you’re into that (I know I am), this might be the one for you.

You can watch the Island PV here:

Asobi Asobase/Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro

Comedy skit type of anime are very hit or miss. With that being said, some of my favorite anime fall under this genre. I can’t count how many times I have watched Nichijou and Daily Lives of High School Boys and both have not failed to crack me up.

Asobi Asobase and Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro will hopefully both become hits. I will probably watch one episode, see if they’re funny, and go from there. Hopefully they are without trying way too hard and falling short.

There’s more in I would try out episodic reviews but that takes up a lot of time and I could barely release two posts a week. I’ll continue doing my first impressions, midseason and closing thoughts for now until I become more comfortable in blogging.

So what are you planning on watching for this upcoming anime season?

  1. Aside from Gran Blue and Hanebado, everything else I’m watching. I’ll see how those two go and if they look good I’ll jump in and watch a few. Neither really stood out for me initially so maybe once they get going I’ll check them out.

One quick thing regarding Ongaku Shoujo, not sure if you know this but back in 2015 there was an OVA for Ongaku Shoujo part of Anime Mirai 2015, that’s where this all started. Might be worth finding that OVA and watching it before checking out the anime as it looks to have some returning characters. Not sure if it’ll have much of an impact on the anime, but I just felt like mentioning it if you weren’t aware.

As for my watch list for next season, all these are confirmed:
    One Room S2
    Yama no Susume S3
    Cinderella Girls Theater S3
Harukana Receive (reviewing on Anime Corps)
    Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro
    Ongaku Shoujo
    Hataraku Saibou
    Asobi Asobase
    Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes
    Shoujo ☆ Kageki Revue Starlight
    Happy Sugar Life
    AoT S3

    So yeah, summer season hype.

    1. You’re watching a lot of anime this season, I wish I can get back to that form again!! There’s a lot of anime that looks good on paper, but I’ll check the general consensus on whether it’s worth watching or not.

Also I’ll probably check out the Ongaku Shoujo OVA, I really like how the song used in the PV was sounding!
